On your other computers
Put the folder in iCloud Drive or Dropbox and write on more than one Mac.
Put the folder in a synced folder
A project is a folder, so the sync service you already use can carry it. Move the project folder into iCloud Drive or Dropbox, then open it from there on each Mac with File > Open Folder. When Windows arrives, OneDrive will do the same job there.
Keep it downloaded
To save space, sync services can leave a file in the cloud until you open it. Bakspace works best with every file on the disk, so tell the service to keep the project folder downloaded:
- In iCloud Drive, turn off Optimize Mac Storage (System Settings > your name > iCloud > Drive), or on macOS 15 and later Control-click the folder and choose Keep Downloaded.
- In Dropbox, right-click the folder and choose Make available offline. A whole folder offline needs a paid Dropbox plan; on Basic, mark the files one by one instead.
“Not available on this Mac yet”
The file is still on its way. Bakspace opens it the moment it arrives and never treats it as deleted.
Until it arrives, the document is left out of word counts, search and export. Word counts and search say how many they left out; export names which ones.
Open on two computers at once
Changes you make on one show up on the other as they arrive.
If you type in the same scene on both at once, both versions are kept. Your words are saved beside the scene as a conflict copy, named like 02 Salt.conflict-….md, and Bakspace says so in a banner and lists it under Conflict copies in the binder. Open the copy in any text editor, keep what you want, and delete the copy.
The sync service's own copies
Sometimes the sync service makes a copy of its own, named something like Salt (conflicted copy).md. It shows up as a new document in the binder. Nothing is lost: read both, keep what you want, and delete the one you do not need.
